The two growth factors in OF·27 are made by molecular farming: the protein is expressed in the seeds of Camelina sativa rather than in the steel bioreactors conventionally used for recombinant proteins. The active is supplied by Core Biogenesis, the company that developed this platform.
Growing a protein in a crop rather than culturing it in a bioreactor changes the economics and the logistics of production. What matters here is the carrier: expressing each growth factor in the seed alongside an oleosome yields the protein already bound to a lipid body that stabilises it, the fusion described in Note 05.
OF·27 formulates these two actives into a protocol and measures the result. The measurement method is the subject of Note 08, and the study of Note 09.
